Privacy & Security

Where is my data stored?

All recordings, transcripts, and AI-generated notes are stored locally on your device. Nothing is permanently stored on our servers. Audio is sent for processing and deleted immediately after transcription is complete. If you enable iCloud Sync (Pro and above), your data is also stored in your private iCloud account, managed by Apple.

Do you use my data to train AI models?

No. Your recordings and transcripts are never used to train AI models. Your data is processed, returned to your device, and deleted from our servers immediately.

Do I need to create an account?

No. SayScribe works without accounts, sign-ups, or personal information. Just download and start recording.

Who can see my recordings?

Only you. Recordings and notes stay on your device (and in your private iCloud, if sync is enabled). We have no access to your content.

Recording & Features

How many languages are supported?

SayScribe supports 99 languages with automatic language detection. You can also manually set the language in Settings.

What are the recording time limits?

  • Free: 30 minutes per recording, 60 minutes per month
  • Standard: 2 hours per recording, 480 minutes per month
  • Pro: 3 hours per recording, 1,500 minutes per month
  • Premium: 5 hours per recording, 3,600 minutes per month

Does recording work in the background?

Yes. Recording continues when you lock your screen or switch to another app.

What happens if a phone call interrupts my recording?

Recording pauses automatically when a call comes in and resumes when the call ends. No audio is lost.

Can I import existing audio files?

Yes. You can import audio files (M4A, WAV, MP3, AAC) for transcription and AI processing. Standard and above plans support audio file import.

What is Car Mode?

Car Mode is a simplified recording display with larger controls, designed for hands-free recording when your iPhone is mounted in a car. Enable it in Settings. Works with CarPlay and Bluetooth. Available on iPhone only.

iPad & Multi-Device

Does SayScribe work on iPad?

Yes. SayScribe is fully optimized for iPad with a split view layout, project sidebar, and 3-column action tracker. It's the same app — download it from the App Store on any iPhone or iPad.

Can I sync between iPhone and iPad?

Yes. Enable iCloud Sync in Settings (available for Pro and Premium subscribers). Your recordings, transcripts, action items, and projects will sync across all devices signed into the same iCloud account. Premium subscribers also get audio file sync.

Is there a Mac version?

A Mac version is coming soon.

Projects & Action Tracker

What is the Action Tracker?

The Action Tracker collects all action items from every recording into one dashboard. You can filter by status, set due dates, get reminders, and track completion. Pro subscribers get full access with projects, filters, and saved views. Premium adds daily planning (My Day), checklists, and more.

What are Projects?

Projects let you organize action items into groups like "Q3 Launch" or "Client Onboarding". Assign items to projects from the detail view or context menu. Available for Pro and Premium subscribers.

What is My Day?

My Day is a daily planning view where you collect the items you want to focus on today. Items due today are automatically suggested. Available for Premium subscribers.

AI & Transcription

How accurate is the transcription?

Transcription accuracy is high with clear audio. Factors that can affect accuracy include background noise, multiple overlapping speakers, heavy accents, and technical jargon. For best results, record in a quiet environment.

How do AI summaries work?

After transcription, your text transcript (never the audio) is sent to an AI service that generates summaries, action items, meeting minutes, follow-up emails, and sentiment analysis. The transcript is processed and not stored on any server.

Can the AI make mistakes?

Yes. AI-generated content may contain errors or inaccuracies. Always review summaries, action items, and follow-up emails before relying on them for important decisions.

Can I identify who said what?

Yes. SayScribe includes speaker detection that labels different speakers in the transcript (Speaker A, Speaker B, etc.).

My summaries are in the wrong language. What can I do?

If AI summaries appear in a different language than expected, go to Settings and set the Transcription Language to your preferred language instead of Auto-Detect. This ensures both transcription and AI outputs use the correct language. Auto-Detect works well for most recordings but may occasionally misidentify the language with very short or ambiguous audio.

Plans & Pricing

Is there a free version?

Yes. The free tier includes recording, transcription, and AI summaries with generous monthly limits. No credit card required.

How do subscriptions work?

Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store. Monthly and yearly plans are available. You can cancel anytime in your Apple ID settings. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

Yes. Manage or cancel your subscription anytime in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad.

Troubleshooting

My transcription failed. What should I do?

Tap the recording and look for a "Retry" option. Transcription can fail due to temporary server issues or poor audio quality. If the problem persists, contact us at support@sayscribe.app.

My recording sounds empty or corrupt.

This can happen if your device is critically low on storage. SayScribe will warn you if storage is too low to record. Free up space and try again.

Do I need an internet connection?

Recording works offline. However, transcription and AI processing require an internet connection since audio is processed server-side and returned to your device.

Legal & Consent

Do I need permission to record a conversation?

Laws vary by jurisdiction. Many places require consent from all parties before recording. You are solely responsible for complying with local recording consent laws. SayScribe does not provide legal advice.
